London is the city that hosts the most expensive house for sale in the world today. According to the business newspaper Quartz, the 16,000-square-meter mansion in Regent’s Park, one of the eight royal parks in the English capital, was recently put on the market for $300 million – which is approximately R$ 1.5 billion at the current exchange rate.
In addition to the potential of being the largest property sale in London’s history, the estate has surpassed the value of the penthouse triplex in Central Park Tower in New York – considered the world’s highest apartment – which is listed for $250 million (R$ 1.2 billion), making it the most expensive property available in the global real estate market.
Located near Buckingham Palace, the mansion, named The Holme, features 40 rooms spread across two floors and 2,700 square meters of living space. Expansive gardens and a lake are also part of the property.
However, the record price is not only due to its extravagant dimensions but also its historical significance: the property was built in 1818 by 19th-century architect Decimus Burton and became an icon of British Regency architecture.
In its 205 years of existence, The Holme has also been home to members of the Saudi royal family – specifically Prince Abdullah bin Khalid bin Sultan al-Saud, the country’s representative to the United Nations, according to Financial Times.
The previous record for the most expensive house for sale in London was held by the 45-room mansion known as 2–8a Rutland Gate. Overlooking Hyde Park, it was listed for $221 million (R$ 1.1 billion) at the end of 2022.
